The project with a length of 21.7 km and including 16 stations, was carried out with the aim of reducing the load of the D-100 highway between Kadıköy and Kartal, which has intense vehicular traffic, to ensure transport of mass passengers on this axle and to speed up transport between the two continents. It is a metro project that continues along the E-5 (D-100) highway axis on the Anatolian side of Istanbul and that is completely a NATM tunnel project. A total of 10,637 m tunnel excavation and 11,490 m tunnel inner lining concrete works, including excavation and support, concrete lining and other construction works with the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) were carried out within the scope of the project.
